Using Essential oils in your food...Say what?!?
For yesterday's class, I wanted to make a snack and a dessert using some "EO's" (essential oils)...Popcorn is one of my go-to's because its quick, easy and who doesn't like popcorn? I chose both dōTerra onguard and cinnamon essential oils to give the popcorn some flavor. If you haven't diffused a bowl with edible essential oils yet...keep reading...
Using a paper towel or a culinary brush (for lack of the proper word), I start with two drops of each dōTerra "eo", evenly distributing around the entire bowl. Toss in some of the popcorn and stir with the brush. I then toss in additional popcorn and repeat. It is healthy and something that my class had never had before and enjoyed. If you never heard of dōTerra onguard before, it is a protective oil made of Wild Orange, Clove Bud, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary essential oils. It is designed to help and protect your immune system. Perfect for this time of year. (BTW Parmesan cheese or black pepper is optional. )
Having the sweet tooth that I have, I had to make something with chocolate and peppermint oil. Here is my recipe for Filodough shells...
Melt 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips and a 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Add 2 drops of dōTerra peppermint oil.
If needed add 2 more dōTerra peppermint oil drops. After it melts, make sure it is blended well and let cool so you can put it in a plastic bag. Cut off the tip of the plastic bag and start piping the filodough shells. Top with seasalt or sprinkles and enjoy!
(NOTE: These recipes are only for dōTerra onguard, cinnamon and peppermint essential oils. Please do not try this with any other oils.)
